Titans (11-5) vs. Ravens (11-5) Preview

It’s a rematch of last year’s biggest playoff surprise, when the Titans upset the seemingly unstoppable 14-2 Ravens in the AFC Divisional round. The Titans also beat the Ravens in overtime earlier this season. Since then, however, Lamar Jackson has performed at an extremely high level, playing to a 115.8 passer rating, rushing for 86 yards per game, and leading Baltimore to 5 straight wins. This is largely due to the Ravens recommitting to the running game. We wrote about what their approach should be against the Titans Defense earlier this week.

On the other side of the ball, the Titans similarly rely on their rushing attack. And in their last 4 games, Derrick Henry has rushed for 710 (!) yards and 5 touchdowns. You can bet that Tennessee will continue leaning on Henry to both move the ball and keep Lamar Jackson off the field, especially given how bad the Titans Defense has been this season.

Tennessee’s play-action passing game has been very effective working off of the threat of King Henry. In fact, no team in the NFL had a higher percentage of its passing yards come off of play-action than the Titans did in 2020. Ryan Tannehill has also put together another tremendous year. He followed up his breakout 2019 season with an under-the-radar 106.5 passer rating and a 33-7 TD-INT ratio. He also rushed for 7 touchdowns, meaning he accounted for 40 total touchdowns in 2020. That’s quite the follow-up to a season many claimed was a fluke.
