When these two teams met in Week 11, the Eagles chose to give extra attention on defense to wide receiver Michael Thomas. They either rolled safety help over top of him or flat out double-teamed him. Drew Brees was able to capitalize by taking advantage of 1-on-1’s elsewhere, and the Saints rolled to a 48-7 win.
Since then, a few things have changed. The Saints have not quite played like the offensive juggernaut they were around midseason. The Eagles have tightened up on defense and gotten healthier. They also have Nick Foles at quarterback instead of Carson Wentz, in case you hadn’t heard.
The two key factors to watch in this one are how the Eagles handle Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara. Both players tend to draw a lot of attention from defenses, and Sean Payton does a great job of capitalizing on this. How much will the Eagles alter their approach from Week 11?
The other key factor is the match up of the Eagles’ offensive line against the Saints D-Line. The Saints can get after the quarterback, but Philly’s offensive line has looked much improved in recent weeks. This is especially true for left tackle Jason Peters, who has played much better the further away he’s gotten from his 2017 knee injury.
Check out how these teams match up below:
